Last year I was part of a panel at PAX Aus Online, discussing The Research Behind the Games of Defence. The panel included A/Prof Deane-Peter Baker at UNSW Canberra, Dr Beth Cardier at Griffith Univeristy, Dr Helen Marshall at UQ and Dr Kate Devitt, Chief Scientist at the Trusted Autonomous Systems Defence CRC. We discussed a lot of ideas about how games are being used or could be used in Defence, including important questions about whether wargames risk causing ethical desensitivity to and how this could be addressed. The full session is now available on YouTube, below.
